Quick Album Review: Radiohead - King of Limbs
February 21, 2011
I usually don't go negative here but I want to try to save the readers of this blog the time and money they might waste on this release. Do you like ambient albums that are not song oriented and have no obvious chorus or hooks? If so, the new Radiohead album "King of Limbs" may be for you...and you might also have a career as a music critic. I was excited when I heard the last Radiohead release "In Rainbows," which was a return to form offering up actual songs ala "The Bends." Unfortunately The King of Limbs is basically Amnesiac Part 2, or Part 3 if you count Hail To The Thief. Critics are already going gaga over it, just like they did for Kid A, Amnesiac and Hail To The Thief, all which pale in comparison to Pablo Honey, The Bends and OK Computer. Why do critics love it? For two reasons: 1. Because it is Radiohead; 2. Because it is art for arts sake; 3. Because it's meandering ambiance that is in no way hooky and is as far from anything popular as you can get. They somehow think it gives them credibility as critics to say they get it. Because trust me when I tell you...you won't.
