But is it commercial?
“If you aint got a hook, you aint got a hope.”

Every now and then you hear a decent track used in a TV commercial. Lately there have been a few really good ones that have turned me onto some great new artists. The best find has got to be Tim Myer, who has songs in Target and Saturn commercials. This led me to his MySpace page (www.myspace.com/timmyersmusic) where I found out that he has a new EP called The Good Life. It’s a fantastic Power Pop find with hints of ELO and other 70’s pop influences. Unfortunately it’s only available as a download from iTunes right now, but hopefully he will have a full CD release in the future. This guy writes great songs and I'm surprised there isn't more buzz out there about his music. I highly recommend this new EP.

Another fun power pop gem is “It’s Love” from Chris Knox, which can currently be heard in the Heineken ads. The song is on iTunes and the CD is available online. It’s full of quirky pianos and an infectiously hooky chorus with a cool break at about 1:43. Unfortunately I don’t think a lot of Chris Knox’s output is as melodic as this track.

The strangest track I’ve heard is an original made for the Garmin “Napoleon” GPS ad…Its’ a take off on the classic new wave style of "Ca Plane Pour Moi" by Plastic Bertrand, with a good portion sung in French. You’ve got to love it though because it’s a great new wave sound, it’s original and you can download it for free here: http://www8.garmin.com/gameday/ Just click on the “Media” tab.

I loved the "Let's Go Outside" song featured in the commercials for Coleman outdoor products, so I did a little legwork and discovered it was a song called "Outside" by The Stereotypes. Good stuff.
