New and Recommended!

Tick

The Tick – SPOON! At long last…one of the funniest animated series ever created comes to DVD. Please don’t confuse this with the not-so-funny live action series that was only on for part of one season. This is the original animated series, and the first season has just been released on DVD. There’s one episode from season one that’s been left off, and the transfer quality isn’t as good as I had hoped, but overall you can’t go wrong. Clever and full of super hero parody, this is one of my personal favorites. The best episode, The Tick vs. The Tick is included…featuring super villain The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs at Midnight yelling, “Surf’s up space ponies! We’re making gravy without the lumps!”

One Ring Zero - Wake them Up

Oh my! This is one of those great finds that just don’t come along all that often. Somewhere between Granddady and They Might Be Giants, One Ring Zero delivers an amazingly fun, quirky record full of odd instrumentation, and offbeat instrumentals. The songwriting is hooky and original. Four stars for this one! This years top ten list is getting crowded!

Electric Light Orchestra - Reissues

New World Record, Face The Music and On The Third Day have been fully restored, remastered with bonus tracks and new liner notes. The magic of Jeff Lynne was in full force on these three releases. NWR and FTM are two of my favorites. Here’s hoping Out Of The Blue isn’t far behind! If you’re an ELO fan these are a must, if you’re not, well…may God have mercy on your soul.

Starflyer 59 - My Island

Jason Martin continues his run of great albums with the new Starflyer 59 release…a bit more of a rock and guitar oriented record than Talking Voice…this one is very 80’s influenced with great songs…a must have!

Good Monsters

Monsters

If you've never heard the band Jars of Clay, Good Monsters is the album to get. If you think you know what the band is all about but haven't heard Good Monsters, you're in for a surprise. The songwriting and production is brilliant and this is easily the best thing they have ever done. It's one of the better records I've heard this year. Needless to say, I was really surprised by the quality and depth of this release.
